The pendulum – Summer National Pairs Finals – Session 1
Sharing the journey of Summer national pairs finals..
It was quite a disappointment – finishing second after having built a lead of more than 1.5 boards and 10 boards to go.
The action started with board 1.

(1) Preemptive
After a preemptive raise by partner, and 4S by Tewari, it seemed like my hand was totally devoid of defence. The question was – will we be able to make 9 tricks to justify the risk of a save. If pd is a balanced kind of hand – say 3442, we may lose 5 tricks. I elected to bid 5H
As it happens, 4S can be beaten (H lead, D ruff, SA, D ruff),
but nobody who defended 4S found the defence, so 5Hx -1 turned out to be a worthwhile score
