The pendulum – Summer National Pairs Finals – Session 1
We were facing Manna and Datta in the last round of the session.
They were the leaders at that point, with a massive 75% + score. It was looking like the gap between them and 2nd place might turn out to be insurmountable.. however, this game is probably more unpredictable than stock market.
In the first board they chose to stay in 1N with 14 opp 10 HCP. Right strategy at MPs, but not on this deal.
Easy 9 tricks were available, and 10 was possible, and some of the field did bid the game.
They again stayed low in 3S with 10 card fit and 23 HCP. However, this time it worked well for them when 9 tricks turned out to be the limit of the hand.
End of morning session we had a healthy 63% score (including CO) and were lying I believe 4th.
Manna and Datta had a huge lead, and RT-Keyzad were in 2nd place. A good start for them is never good news for opposition as they have been one of the most consistent performers in both formats of the game, for a long time now. Most of the time its good news as they are our teammates. Not today :0
Back soon with 2nd set.
