Benefits of Transfer and Retransfer Bids

                     Another example of using retransfer bid is —

                      1NT – 2D ( Transfer to H )

                       Opener can SUPER ACCEPT with 4+ trumps and  a good fitting maximum by bidding a NEW 

                        suit ( 2S/3C/3D )  to show a Doubleton or to show losers in the bid suit . Responder can

                         RETRANSFER with a 3D bid if the  bidding space permits OR jump to a logical game or sign

                         off in 3H.

                         Another example of SUPER ACCEPT over similar transfer is to REBID 2NT  to show mostly 3

                         trumps and a preference for NT game with a MAXIMUM. Responder can again

                         RETRANSFER and decide later where to play.

 

Any partnership that decides to play such transfers and retransfers should practice a little bit before putting it down on the convention card and have a clear understanding and be able to EXPLAIN to their opponents if asked. Half hearted or half baked methods rarely go very far in improving the bidding.
