Team BridgeDuniya @ Summer Nationals – Day 1

DAY ONE

The start of tournament was ominous. On the very first board of the day we ended up giving away a big penalty. Pd opened 2D showing 4 4 or longer in majors and a weak hand. This is a great weapon to have in your arsenal and pays rich dividends often. However this time he found me with 2 2 in majors and two minor Kings . Opponents started doubling and eventually collected 1100 in 2 x.

We were able to recover from there to win the match by 2 IMPs.

We played our 2nd match against aristos, again winning g narrowly by 5. A single hand, a slam on a guess contributed largely to our opps salvaging the match when we failed to bring home the slam.

3rd match against summer coolers gave us a bit of boost. A win by 17 and resulting 15.29 VPs gave Abit of comfort.

A big win against samadhan, and a very gratifying victory against acropolis followed . Gratifying, but not satisfying as we misdefended two hands. Still we were sitting  pretty at 2nd place – just 0.25 VPs adrift of the leaders.

However disaster struck in the last round of the day, when we got totally whipped by Maya meera and dropped to 6th position. More on this match later.

There are two more rounds to go in the Swiss league after which top 16 teams will play knock out. Seems reasonable to assume we’ll make the cut.

Keep you posted.
