Tic..tac..change ur tack
Lets look at the hand from my (declarer’s) point of view
Yes, I erred and erred badly in the bidding. I should have just bid 4♣ over partner’s double. 5♣ is easy to make, and 6 comes home if ♦ finesse works. I plead guilty to having liked my ♥ AQ a little too much.
Needless to say, I didn’t like of the dummy much. The only realistic chance seemed to be to play for 4 ♣ tricks. That would give me 4 ♣ , 2♥ and since I won’t have time to develop diamonds, I needed my RHO to hold ♠ Kx.
The duck of first ♣ didn’t change anything much, but 2nd ♣ duck suddenly opened up a new lease of life – much better than depending on precisely Kx♠ onside.
Accordingly, I changed my tack for the first time, shifting my attention to diamonds. A 3-3 break or T doubleton would give me 4 ♦ 2♥ 2♣ and 1♠
But ofcourse they ducked the ♦ K.
Second change of tack, I played a small ♠ from hand. This would give me 2♥ 2♣ 1♦ and 4♠
But ofcourse they ducked again. I was now able to go back to my original play – clubs.
2♥ 1♦ 2♠ and 4♣ added to the magic nine 🙂
Hope you enjoyed the zigzag journey as much as I did .. but for the discomfort of first 2 tricks .
